The COMKIT-SPORT is suitable for leisure boats with single outboards up to 135HP or twin outboards up to 250HP TOTAL (counter-rotating).

Featuring the Side-mount 512T cylinder and 500 helm, the Commander COMKIT-SPORT is an easy-to-install solution for family leisure boats, offering the reliability of hydraulic steering at an economical price without the jammed cables.

The cylinder is designed to screw directly onto the outboard motor’s tilt-tube or pivot-tube, in exactly the same way as a conventional cable-steering unit. Like other tube-mount cylinders, it requires very little clearance to the side of the outboard motor.

Is This The Right Kit for My Boat?

The 512T is designed for installation directly onto the tilt-tube of the outboard motor in the same way as conventional cable steering. Attaches to the outboard motor’s tiller arm using the motor’s existing drag-link. The cylinder requires sufficient side clearance to fit, however the hoses remain stationary which makes it an ideal choice for many small boats. Installation is simple and performance is impressive when compared with conventional cable steering.

These Hydrive Commander small-boat steering kits make it a very simple DIY installation.
Installation of HyDrive steering equipment is very simple. From the minute you open the box and begin to read the comprehensive instructions, you will find the system has been designed to be installed by even the most inexperienced boating enthusiast, without any hydraulic knowledge. Everything you need is included, right down to the nuts, bolts, and Loctite.

Other Kits Available:

Commander Kits  – Utilise an aluminium cylinder design, with unique electrolytic insulation between metals for maximum corrosion resistance. Commander kits use the 501 Helm Pump Unit.
Different Versions – Some Honda & Mercury Outboards –  may require a different version of this kit  to avoid interference with the motor cowl – these versions are also listed below.

  • Optional Rear Mount (Helm) Kit – Adding his unit means the steering wheel/helm does not protrude into the helmsman’s space so much as part of the helm mechanism can be recessed behind the dash. It  fits any model 401,402 and 501 helm unit – adjustable from low-profile to full protrusion for maximum flexibility in helm placement. Simply trim the spacers and studs to adjust the amount of penetration into the helm position. The front dash or console ring is fully O-ring sealed against pump body to prevent water ingress to the rear of the console. Easy to fit – easy to adjust – looks great. (REAR MOUNT KIT)
